Due to popular demand, we present the underground hip-hop of the Soul Kid Klik. SKK was a group that was formed by G-Clef da Mad Komposa of Ghetto Philharmonic, a group formerly signed to Tuff City Records. When Jay "Wax" Garfield of the Garfield Brothers met G-Clef while doing some radio shows, G-Clef became managed by what was then known as Gza Entertainment, which was co-owned by Genius from the Wu-Tang Clan. The crew of artists that G-Clef was then producing were known as the Soul Kid Klik, and were soon annexed under the Wu-Tang banner, as a Gza Entertainment act. Although two of these recordings were recorded before 1994, when the SKK was not yet a Wu-Affiliated group, there has existed, for some time, a series of demos and studio recordings that were eventually to be released on Soul Kid Records as a full length album. However, with the collapse of relations between the Garfield Brothers and Genius, as well as internal turmoil within SKK, the group basically was disbanded, with the project left unfinished. Several ex-members of this now legendary group still work together and speak, but there, at this time, no discussions of any new material from the group as a whole. Here, now, for the first time, is the most complete representation of the album material. Enjoy.

G-CLEF

"My Mortal Combat is a mirror match; between two opposing poles of a Gemini Sun's soul!

the founder, producer, and visionary behind both the Soul Kid Klik and Soul Kid Records. The artist formerly known as G-Clef seeks now to unite the world utilizing modern-day hip-hop, so that the planet we refer to as earth may take its rightful place in the universe. Having been alive since almost the dawn of civilization, he has added to his mastery of beat making, a new form of lyrical skills he calls verbal alchemy. He was the leader and lead rapper of the Tuff City group Ghetto Philharmonic, and we also the producer and coordinating leader of the SKK. he is currently producing and leading the Ghetto Swing styled acoustic group Yalloppin' Hounds.

INFAMOUS

"Who be dat ill nigga creepin' out da jungle.........."

Dat "ill nigga" be Da Infamous Mr. Savage from his fiery delivery on Mortal Combat, released on Soul Kid Records in late 1995.  In 1992, Da Infamous Mr. Savage came to the attention of producer G-Clef, Da Mad Komposer. G-Clef then began the task of honing the skills of this wild and fearsome street rapper into a seasoned and radio-friendly emcee., without losing that rugged edge that made him infamous! Infamous is truly a versatile songwriter: hardcore, street, freestyle, even smooth and laid back styles are all perfectly complimented by the wide mood ranges of G-Clef's beats. His freestyle and battle skills are augmented by his talent for dropping lyrical jewels such as "with da ill tune I'm bringing pain soon to the one who imitates me like he's Shang Tsung!" (for those who aren't familiar with the video game Mortal Kombat, Tsung is a sorcerer who can assume the spirit of any of his adversaries!) His concept remains simple: "Infamous" vs. Da World in Mortal Combat!!!

BLAKSPIK

"...bag ya crew in alphabetical order!"

Taking time out from his job as King of New York, he is bringing back true Bronx Hip-Hop to the forefront of American music. He can currently be found in the streets of the Bronx throwing grenades inside bodegas!  Next to G-Clef  himself, Joaquin is the longest standing member of the Soul Kid Klik, being down since 1989. He was featured on the Tuff City album by Ghetto Philharmonic called Hip-Hop/Be-Bop from 1993. He rhymed on two cuts, The Caucasoid and Gassmaster. He was also featured on the 1995 single release by the klik called Mortal Combat. Juakim the Blak Spik is definitely a New York-style rugged emcee, representing his culture, combined with hardcore lyrics designed to make any wack rapper, who thinks it can't happen, freeze in his tracks!

GOODFELLA

"Ice like Gravano, slicing suckers like Baraka..."

Goodfella Mike G, aka Vito Andolini, the Italiano sytled emcee, first came to attention of the New York City Hip-Hop underground when he came here from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He began his conquest by sitting in at a lot of open-mic sessions around the city. The original version of Strictly Dago, the song he is known for performing, won the demo contest on the Stretch Armstrong show hosted by Bobbito Garcia. He then rhymed on W-KCR live on the show one week, and ripped it! This is how he came to the attention of producer G-Clef, who then produced an album's-worth of material for him. The first single was that award-winning song, Strictly Dago. On the B-side was a collaboration between he and G-Clef called Two Guinnies With Soul. His album, Time To Make da Pasta, is available on vinyl LP, and now on CD as well.

STORM

"The Black Sonya...skilled in nine degrees of combat...mortals that react get their spine ripped out they back!"

the Ghetto Mutant, also known as The Black Sonya, will descend upon the Hip-Hop world sometime in 1997 as a soloist for the first time. She was previously featured on the Soul Kid Klik's release Mortal Combat in 1995. Storm is an emcee who does not want to be judged as a female emcee, but as a true emcee. She writes her own lyrics, which cover a wide range of topics, from freestyle to political, and she is real, in a time in Hip-Hop history where originality and honesty are on the run! Storm is not for the faint-hearted, nor the fake-willie's. When asked if she considered herself a playa or a playa-hater she replied...playa-killer!

MALIK KAHAAR ALI

"The lines of the paper become the bars of my prison cell..."

aka Mark Dee, Mark Danger, one of the all time greatest, yet slept on classic lyricists in Hip-Hop. His former rhyming sidekick, as recorded on his own MCA album, was Keith Murray... his deejay was Diamond Jay, of EPMD fame. He has penned many of hip-hop's classics for other artists. He has collaborated with such stars as Craig Mack, Keith Murray, Big Daddy Kane, King Sun, Diamond D, K-Solo, and Weldon Irvine.

SKINSLAYA

"Jealousy, lies, and deceipt, step to me with that shit it's an instant ass beat."

aka Smitty, singer, songwriter Skinslaya Smith has been an active member of New York City's underground Hip-Hop/R&B scene for the last decade. After contributing songs to several albums and singing background for many other artists, he felt it was now time to claim his crown as the King of Ghetto Love! Skinslaya may be described as the Nat "King" Cole of Hip-Hop Soul,, because of his smooth, personable style. His talent for smooth vocals is perhaps equaled by his talent for unbelievably fat hooks and lyrics.

D.J. SPINBAD

DJ SPINBAD has been associated with G-Clef and the Soul Kid Klik since 1992, when he joined Tuff City group Ghetto Philharmonic. His innovative cuts on the album Hip-Hop/Bebop are now legendary, as they were way ahead of their time. Underground hedz got to hear his brilliance again on Mortal Combat , as he concocted the illest musical fatality ever caught on wax to date! He and JS-1 are also featured on 'BOMB' Magazine's compilation album "Return of the Deejay, Volume 2". Spinbad Tapes are more than mix tapes, as he combines underground hits with his own remixes, musical collages, freestyles, and of course, the sickest cuts known to man! Many singles are available on these tapes way before they are in stores, PLUS some never become available, and are exclusively on these tapes! He is a protégé of the great Jazzy Jeff, and did work on Wil Smith's LP Big Willie Style, recorded on the Lyricist Lounge Compilation LP, collaborated with Kenny Dope, pre-records a weekly radio show for K-KBT: 92 The Beat in L.A. on Saturdays between 8-10 p.m., and surprisingly now holds down the wheels for Pop Star Moby!! Now spinning for NYC station Power 105.1.

"...the term Soul Kid has a specific meaning that certain heads aren't catching... the soul refers to the indwelling spirit of God in Man, while the kid part refers to the fact that we are children of the father of creation...."  Mad Komposa
